gita IRLL: Becca Cheung

In–Real–Local–Life

Neighborhood: Lower Queen Anne, Washington

Longest gita trip: A daylong adventure to University Village with Neha Judge

Miles walked with gita: Around 10 (I live close to everything!)

Favorite place to bring gita: Met Market

Times per week using gita: 1-2 times a week, mostly for groceries

Nickname for gita: Gonk! A big, red, sweet and silly derp.

What do you love most about your neighborhood?

The ability to walk to Seattle’s waterfront four blocks away from me! AND a fully unobstructed view of the Space Needle. There’s also pretty good coffee right around the corner, and a fabulous restaurant across the street.

What’s your favorite gita feature?

I love the Star Wars-esque, droid beeping, and the ability to volume control how obnoxiously loud my gita will beep. It’s absolutely adorable.

What do you like most about gita’s design?

I love the rotund design, it gives gita such a fun personality, and I’ve shamelessly characterized it as my chonky, derpy Gonk.

How has gita made your daily living easier? Has it changed the way you move about your neighborhood?

gita has definitely made errands easy when I don’t have a car, and I know I’ll need to be picking up heavy items. It really is a game changer.

What’s the largest item you’ve ever had gita carry?

My Christmas tree! I have a reusable 7 foot tree that breaks into 4 parts, and I needed to take the parts to and from storage using Gonk (thank goodness for Gonk!).

What kinds of comments do you get from strangers when out and about with gita?

The comments are always that of pure wonder and curiosity. I love that people of all ages have stopped and asked me what gita is, and what it can do. I’ve had a toddler ask me what was my “friend’s” name, and I’ve had very elderly folks at the grocery store ask me how they could get their hands on one to make their lives easier.

Can you think of a time when gita surprised you with its carrying ability?

If anyone is familiar with Queen Anne Avenue North, you’ll know how steep of a hill that is. I live towards the bottom, but still a good walk up the bottom portion of the hill. My gita was able to carry a few bottles of wine and a 24 case of White Claw up two hills to my condo without beeping too furiously at me or rolling down the hill backwards. I was beyond impressed!
